New Toys

Yesterday was a frigid, blustery day with snow flurries and arctic winds. This morning, even though it was cold, the air was calm and the sun was out. Rich and I needed to get out of the house, so we decided to take a little walk around town and experiment with the new camera I gave him for his birthday.

Finally! It's about time there were some food stands along the River Trail.
Finally! It’s about time there were some food stands along the River Trail.

Our walk took us down to the River Trail at Decker’s Bridge, then west to Mellow Park, where we walked the newly resurfaced trail alongside the river. A gas station along the trail was recently remodeled and now features a Nathan’s hot dog stand and an ice cream stand. We crossed the bridge over the river and hiked back along the railroad tracks and back home via Church Street. Even on these short hikes around town, we find plenty to comment on and usually discover something new.

  1. Hi, I have been enjoying your photos of survey marks. Some time ago you had an article on your web site entitled “Chapter 6.-Appendix, Board of Surveys and Maps Specifications for Horizontal and Vertical Control”. I can’t find it now, did you remove it? What I would like is where you found it. Is it an Appendix to one of the USC&GS Annual Reports?

    Thanks,
    George

    • Hi George,

I’m so glad you’re enjoying the site! I have more survey mark recoveries to post as well as more content (and some reorganization of the site to do), so stay tuned.

You’re looking for the appendix to the Manual of Geodetic Triangulation, a C&GS publication from 1959. It can be found here:

      http://surveymarks.planetzhanna.com/appendix.shtml

Or through the menu on my surveymarks site, Resources -> Publications -> Manual of Geodetic Triangulation; the links in the sidebar will lead you to the pages of the manual that I have posted, including the Appendix.

The Manual is large, so I posted only a few excerpts that seemed to be of interest to myself and other survey mark hunters. Please let me know if there’s anything else I should add, or if you know of any other resources you think would be helpful.

      Thanks!

      Zhanna
